Data Manager (f/m/x)

Hamburg

Your Mission

This is a company built for growth, not comfort.

When you join exmox, you're stepping onto a global, highly competitive playing field, solving real problems in environments that push you beyond your comfort zone.

We build high-performing consumer products across multiple brands in one of the most competitive industries there is: mobile gaming. You will be part of a company on a path of hyper-growth, spearheading one of the largest innovations in the mobile gaming industry, rewarded user acquisition.

At exmox, data is the compass that guides product, commercial, and financial decisions. We are moving away from siloed analyst roles and building interdisciplinary data teams where AI, specifically Claude, handles the heavy lifting of routine analysis, freeing the team to focus on judgment, framing, and impact.

As Data Manager (f/m/x), you will lead this transformation, building a team that operates across analytics, data engineering, and ML rather than in silos, and using Claude and Databricks daily yourself rather than delegating that to others.

What You'll Own:
  • Build and lead a team structured around smaller, interdisciplinary pods that combine analytics, data engineering, and ML, similar to how our engineering organization already works.
  • Set the team's rituals and daily routine, and own how the team communicates, prioritizes, and collaborates.
  • Guide the team's shift from single discipline analyst work to a generalist model where Claude and Databricks handle routine analysis, freeing the team for higher judgment work.
  • Stay genuinely hands-on with Claude and Databricks, including working with high frequency data that updates every few minutes rather than static daily aggregates.
  • Manage across all four data disciplines at least from an understanding level, even without covering every technical topic personally.
  • Partner with leadership to define target profiles, hiring needs, and pace as the team evolves.
  • Champion real, hands on AI adoption across the team rather than surface level use.

What Success Looks Like:
  • The team operates as true generalists: Analysts, engineers, and ML talent work across disciplines rather than in silos, with Claude and Databricks doing the heavy lifting of routine analysis.
  • Decisions are driven by evidence, not opinion: Leadership relies on your team's work before making major calls, and insights are translated into clear, decision-ready recommendations.
  • The team's AI adoption is real, not surface level: Claude and Databricks are used daily as core tools, not occasionally, and this shows in the speed and depth of the team's output.
  • People management and technical credibility go hand in hand: You are seen as a genuine technical leader as well as a strong manager, someone the team trusts on both fronts.

What You Bring

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in data analytics, including 2+ years in a leadership role, with real, hands on people management experience already in hand. Cross functional experience across at least two of analytics, data engineering, ML, or data science is highly valued.
  • Leadership and Impact Orientation: Strong ability to manage a team without personally covering every technical topic, while still understanding it at a high level. Comfortable balancing technical depth with people leadership.
  • Technical Proficiency: Robust, hands on Databricks and/or Spark experience, several years of real exposure. Genuine daily use of Claude or similar AI tools as part of your own workflow.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Clear and confident communicator who can influence senior stakeholders and translate ambiguity into a clear plan for the team.
  • Work Approach: Thrives in evolving environments, brings structure where needed, and is not fearful of covering new technical ground personally as the team's scope grows.

How We Win

  • Speed is the feature. Speed beats rocket science. We move fast, test fast, and multiply our pace with AI, because action creates information and small wins compound. A fast failure is a lesson we learn from, a slow one is a problem we can't afford.
  • Focus on the essential. Done is better than perfect. We stay focused on what actually moves us forward and protect people's time from anything that doesn't. We're direct in how we communicate too, no rambling, no unnecessary detail.
  • See it. Own it. Solve it. The first to see it is best placed to fix it. We're not a place for comfort, we're a place for doers. "Not my job" isn't in our vocabulary, if you spot something, you help make sure it gets solved.
  • Respect others. Trust multiplies. Respect is non-negotiable. We disagree with ideas, never with people. Trust here is built the same way it is anywhere, through consistency, a thank you, a moment of listening, and owning your mistakes.
  • Perks that help you focus on what matters. Transport subsidy, learning budget, wellness and gym, workation, bi-weekly team lunches, and more. The perks are great, but the real reason people join and stay is the challenge, the ownership, and the drive to win together.

Please note: this is not a remote only position, we offer you a flexible hybrid model here in Hamburg, Germany, working from home on Mondays & Fridays, coming to the office on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday!
